Frequently asked questions
How do I make a smaller GIF?
Reduce width (320–480 px is plenty for chat apps), lower FPS to 8–12 and keep the clip short. GIF is an old format, so each extra second adds a lot of size.
Why is my GIF quality grainy?
GIF supports only 256 colors per frame, so gradients and skin tones show dithering. For better quality, use our Video Compressor to make a short MP4 instead, which most platforms autoplay.
Which video formats are supported?
Any format your browser can play: MP4 (H.264) and WebM everywhere, MOV in Safari. If a file won’t load, convert it first with the Video Compressor.
Can I convert YouTube videos to GIF?
Only videos you have on your device and the rights to use. ToolBox does not download from YouTube.
Is there a watermark?
No watermark, no sign-up.
