About this thumbnail text maker
A thumbnail is often the biggest factor in whether someone clicks your video. The classic high-click style is simple: a strong image, three to five huge words with a thick outline, and maybe one emoji. This editor gives you exactly that on a 16:9 canvas, exported at 1280×720, 1920×1080 or 4K 3840×2160.
How to use the Thumbnail Text Maker
- Upload a background image, such as a frame from your video or a photo of yourself (or use the gradient).
- Edit the title text: change words, size, font, color and outline thickness.
- Drag text on the canvas or use the Top/Center/Bottom buttons; add emojis as stickers.
- Pick an export size and download as JPG (smaller) or PNG.

Frequently asked questions
What is the correct YouTube thumbnail size?
YouTube now recommends 3840×2160 pixels (16:9) with a minimum width of 640 px, in JPG, PNG or GIF. Files can be up to 50 MB when uploaded from a computer but only 2 MB from the mobile app. 1280×720 still works and keeps files small.
How many words should a thumbnail have?
Three to five big words is a good rule. The thumbnail is tiny on phones, so the text should be readable at a glance and add to, not repeat, your title.
Which colors work best?
High contrast: yellow or white text with a thick black outline is the classic choice. Use our Image Color Picker to match your brand color.
Can I remove my photo’s background first?
Yes. Use the Background Remover to cut yourself out, then use the result as the background or compose it in another editor.
Is it free and watermark-free?
Yes, no watermark and no sign-up. Images stay on your device.
