About this caption & hashtag counter

Every platform cuts captions at a different length, and since December 2025 Instagram blocks posts and Reels with more than five hashtags. Paste your caption here before posting to see exactly where you stand on each platform, with counts that treat emojis as single characters.

How to use the Caption & Hashtag Counter

  1. Type or paste your caption into the box.
  2. Watch the live counts for characters, words, hashtags, mentions, emojis and lines.
  3. Check the bars: a red bar means you are over that platform’s limit.
  4. Use Remove extra spaces to tidy formatting, or Extract hashtags to copy just the tags.

Frequently asked questions

What is the Instagram caption limit?

2,200 characters. Since 18 December 2025 Instagram also allows only 5 hashtags per post or Reel (down from 30). Only the first ~125 characters show before “more”, so put your hook first.

How many characters can a tweet have?

Standard X accounts can post 280 characters. Links count as 23 characters regardless of length, which this counter does not adjust for.

Do emojis count as one character?

Here, yes, one per visible symbol. Some platforms (notably X) count certain emojis as two, so leave a small buffer if you are right at the limit.

How many hashtags should I use?

On Instagram the maximum is now 5, so choose specific, relevant tags over generic ones. On YouTube, only the first three hashtags in the description show above the title.

Is my caption saved anywhere?

No. Everything is counted in your browser and disappears when you close the tab.
