About this reel & image cropper

Instagram, Facebook and YouTube each want a different shape, and uploading the wrong one means awkward automatic cropping. This tool shows a crop box locked to the right aspect ratio so you decide exactly what stays in the frame, then exports at the recommended pixel size.

How to use the Reel & Image Cropper

  1. Drop a photo or screenshot, or paste one with Ctrl+V.
  2. Tap a preset: Reel/Story for 9:16, IG portrait or square for feed posts, YouTube banner, X header and more.
  3. Drag inside the box to move it and drag a corner to resize; a rule-of-thirds grid helps framing.
  4. Keep “Exact size” to export at the platform’s pixel size (or switch to original pixels), choose a format and press Crop & download.

Frequently asked questions

What size is an Instagram Reel or Story?

1080×1920 pixels, a 9:16 aspect ratio. Keep text away from the top and bottom ~250 px, where the app overlays buttons.

What is the best size for an Instagram feed post?

4:5 portrait (1080×1350) takes up the most screen space in the feed. 1:1 (1080×1080) is the classic square.

What size is a YouTube thumbnail?

Thumbnails are 16:9. YouTube now recommends 3840×2160, and 1280×720 or 1920×1080 also work. Choose 16:9 here, or add text on top with our Thumbnail Text Maker.

Will cropping reduce quality?

Cropping itself doesn’t, but if your crop area is smaller than 1080 px, social size will upscale it. Choose Original pixels to avoid upscaling.

What size is a YouTube channel banner?

YouTube recommends 2560×1440 px. Only the centre area (about 1546×423 px) is safe on every device, so keep text and logos in the middle. Choose the “YT banner 2560×1440” preset and frame your design accordingly.
