About this password generator
Reusing weak passwords is the most common way accounts get hacked. This generator uses your browser’s cryptographically secure random number generator (crypto.getRandomValues) to create passwords that are practically impossible to guess — and nothing is ever sent over the network or saved.
How to use the Password Generator
- Choose Password, Passphrase or PIN.
- For passwords, set the length (16+ recommended) and character types; for passphrases, choose the number of words and a separator.
- Check the strength meter and estimated cracking time.
- Press Copy and paste it into the sign-up form — ideally storing it in a password manager.
Features
- Cryptographically secure randomness with no modulo bias.
- Guarantees at least one character of each selected type.
- Memorable passphrases from a 400+ word list, plus PINs.
- Entropy-based strength meter and bulk generation of 10 at once.
Frequently asked questions
How long should my password be?
Use at least 12 characters, and 16 or more for important accounts like email and banking. Length matters more than complexity.
Are passphrases secure?
Yes. Four or five random words with a number are strong and much easier to remember and type on a phone than a jumble of symbols.
Is it safe to generate passwords online?
This page generates passwords locally with your browser’s secure random generator. Nothing is transmitted or logged, and it even works offline once loaded.
How is the cracking time estimated?
It assumes an attacker making 10 billion guesses per second against a stolen password database and needing, on average, half of all combinations. Real-world times vary.
Should I use a different password for every site?
Yes. Then one leaked site can’t unlock your other accounts. A password manager makes unique passwords easy to use.
